Founded in 2016, by Chef Jay, we have grown to become a beloved destination for food lovers who appreciate the art of Indian cooking. Despite the initial hurdles, Dhaba on Highway began to attract a loyal following, primarily from the Indian diaspora.
A Dhaba is a type of roadside restaurant or eatery, typically found in India They are known for their simple, no-frills atmosphere and their focus on serving delicious, home-style Indian cuisine.
The early days were a whirlwind of challenges. The unfamiliar terrain of the New Zealand food scene, the daunting task of sourcing authentic Indian ingredients, and the skepticism of locals unfamiliar with dhaba-style cuisine made for a steep learning curve. But Jay and Bhawna were undeterred. They worked tirelessly, often juggling multiple roles – chef, waiter, and manager – to keep their dream alive.
